An Eleonor Berkeley Rose one year old

Here are some photos of one of our Eleonor Berkeley roses after only one year in the ground; I am amazed ,and really quite proud it has done so well.

It is lovely to get feed back from happy clients. Just goes to show our natural unheated approach pays off.

A small climbing rose. Very generous pink flowers. It is a delicate rose with thin stems that needs protecting from the wind.  Flowers once a year with a light perfume.

The ideal time to plant Roses is in the Autumn but this goes to show that with love an attention they will work all year round. Old Garden roses are highly resistant to disease and do not need any special soil. They like exactly the same conditions as the vines. Indeed some vinerons plant roses next to their vines as an early warning system, if the roses show signs of mildew, the curse of grape growers, it is time to get out the copper sulphate spray. Which is also allowed in organic agriculture. It is essentially a mix of copper and lemon juice concentrate.

Watering however if you plant out side of Autumn is essential, once a week for the first year, always around the stem base not on the plant itself. After the first year it’s root base should be big enough to support all but the hardest drought.

Old Garden Roses from Montrouch Organic

Following our EcoCert control last week these Roses will officially be organically certified next year.

They all originally came from Jan and his wonderful organic certified huge collection of old roses at the Rose de Talos nursery in the Ariege
