Fete paysanne des Corbieres

Fete paysanne des Corbieres

The second fete paysanne des Corbieres is to be held on Sunday the 19th May at Chataeux Bonnefous in the commune of Villeques des Corbieres. A day of local producers, debates, exhibitions, food and games. Organised by the association Vallee de Paradis who also organise the weekly local producers market in Durban Corbieres every Sunday the fete Paysanne is a celebration of small local producers throughout the Corbieres.

The fete paysanne des Corbieres is build on the work done by the former organisers of the Coerbieres Bio festival who had organised 23 local annual organic festivals in the decades before but with the COVID confinement finally decided to give it a break.

Shifting form organic certification to small local producers was a conscious decision by the new organisers who wanted to concentrate on the many small farmers, artisans and artists of the Corbieres rather than on the fact that a producers had an organic certificate.

Agriculture has had a high profile this last 12 months with the large scale protests by the majority farmers union the FNSEA contesting the price of diesel and the state of existing European grants. However below the headline shave been the work being done by the smaller but more radical Union the Confederation paysanne who promote a different model of many smaller local producers working in an a sustainable way to provide for local markets and consumers. The Fete paysanne des Corberes is very much in that latter camp. The 50 or so local producers present represent a wide variety of produce, wine naturally, and natural, but horticulture, small scale free range animal and poultry farms, cheese makers, honey, as well as those that transform local producer, whether it be distillers, and herb dryers, wood workers, pottery or textiles.

As well as the market there will de a display of local animals, a circus, games for kids and adults alike, a lottery base on the number a chicken poos on, I kid you not, debates and of course great local food served all day, from the associations own restaurant to a wide rage of local produce cooked in place. Local beer and wines are available from the association bar or direct from the producer.

With good weather predicted it will a fun day for all the family.

Caroline will be at our stand and just look for the knackered looking bald bloke running around to find me.
