The now annual Fete de l’Arbre organised by Nature et Progres Aude and the Arbres et Paysages 11 association is taking place this Sunday, 1st December. This year it has moved from Lagrasse to the agricultural Lycee Charlemagne in Carcassonne. Not only does this have the advantage of giving visitors the chance to take a tour of the lycee’s grounds and plantations, it also means that if the weather is bad it has a large hall for stand holders and restos alike, And unlike Lagrasse parking is free. We are hoping this marks the next step forward for the Fete de l’Arbre.
There are a number of guided tours organised during the day, and a series of discussions and workshops, see the agenda link below.
December is the best time of the year to plant trees, and there will be a number of tree growers there selling fruit and nut trees as well as fruit bushes, and of course us with our aromatic plants, Late Autumn is also the ideal time to plant garrigue herbs such as thyme, rosemary, winter savory, and helichrysum.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
There is a bar and various hot food stands, as well as organic wine. Vegetarian and vegan food is available, but there are organic burgers as well for us meat eaters. My advice if you want to eat is buy the food early, it can run out and the longer you wait the longer the queues get. All the stand holders are either certified organic part of Nature et Progres, or members of the SIMPLE union, which organises mountainous organic small holders
